500 Miles (Halfway There)

Monday (Family Park Run)

Monday was an extended weekend day in our house.  My in-laws had spent the night after the birthday party and visited with us all morning.  After lunch, they made their way back to Michigan.  Meanwhile, our entire house took naps.  I cannot even remember the last time I took an afternoon nap.  We were all so worn out from the past couple weeks.  It felt amazing to get that extra 45 minutes of sleep.  The windows were open.  The breeze was blowing.  It was absolutely divine!!!

The weather continued to be beautiful with very low humidity for Ohio in the summertime.  Because of the awesome conditions, we were able to all get some exercise in at 5:00 in the afternoon!  My husband and I ran, N rode his bike, and I pushed C in the stroller until he could play at the playground.  Of course, some dark clouds happen to be rolling in.  Both boys were very concerned about it starting to rain.  They may be a little traumatized from our downpour run.

We went the 2.35 miles to the park.  I could tell I was a little sluggish getting up that first hill.  I kept the other two in my sight and did my best to catch up to them and hang on.  My pace was not where I would have liked it to have been, but that is okay. I cannot run everyday the speed I would like to.

Once we were at the park, the boys got to feed the ducks and burn off their extra energy!  While we were playing, it started to rain.  We hid out under the gazebo to stay dry.  We knew it was only going to last a few minutes.  Then, we hit the path again to head home.  It was hard for my husband to go again after stopping, I think.  I kept trying to encourage him and keep him with me.

Around mile three, he needed a break.  He told us to go on home while he walked for a bit.  So the boys and I kept trucking along.  I knew I wanted to get this run in because it would put me over 500 miles for the year!!!  I think having that in the back of my head helped me pick it up some those last couple of miles.  Or it was that I knew I needed to keep up with Mr. N on his bike since I was the only parent with him now.

We got home and I was pretty darn happy!!!  That run totaled my mileage for the year to 501.12!!!  One of my big running goals this year is to run 1000 miles.  With only a couple runs left in this half of the year, I am right on track.  Fingers crossed I can stay healthy and finish out the second half of the year like the first!

Monday’s Workout:

  • 5 mile run
  • 110 leg raises (I had to do two days of the ab challenge)
  • 50: reverse crunches, jack hammers, bicycle crunches, diamond crunches, side crunches, and x-out crunches
  • 3:05 planks

Tuesday (MRTT run)

Tuesday morning was the absolute perfect morning for a run!

Low humidity.

54 degrees outside.

Moms Run This Town ladies.

And a starlit sky!

Usually, I like to run extra miles on Tuesday mornings.  However, this week, I had to be home for my husband to leave for work by 5:55am.  EEK!  The girls meet at 5:00am.  It usually takes us a few minutes to get everyone there, take our pictures, and hit the paths.  As soon as it was go time, I took off.

Usually there are four of us in the front group.  I felt bad that one of the ladies fell back to the next group because I was all anxious and went out too fast.  Sorry!  Knowing I had just enough time to get the 5k in was a lot more stressful than enjoying my normal extended 5-6 miles.  When she dropped back, I pulled back some.

At the halfway point, we did the turn around. Then, S was in the lead.  Man, that girl took off! As we sprinted up the hills, K said, “Jeez, I think you are going faster up this hill”  All S did was turn her head around and with a smile yelled, “I love hills”.  It made me chuckle and push myself to get up that incline!!!

I said goodbye to the ladies as we ran up to the cars in the parking lot.  I jumped in my car and got myself home.  I had five minutes to spare when I walked in the door.  Phew.  That was definitely more crazy, but at least I got to run with some rockstar moms!

Because I was back so early, I was able to complete all of my rep work AND get a shower in before the boys were allowed to come downstairs at 7:00am!

Tuesday’s Workout:

  • 3.11 mile run
  • 58 leg raises
  • 50: bicycle crunches, jack hammer crunches, and reverse crunches
  • 40: tricep dips, push ups, bridges, donkey kicks, fire hydrants, squats, lunges, Russian twists, scissor kicks, and ankle taps
  • 20: leg and hip extensions, single leg deadlifts, and supermans
  • 3:00 planks
  • arm weights, 10 reps, three rounds

After all of that, I put on my old Mizunos and climbed a hill (also known as a mountain) a few times with the boys in search of some fossils. It was a fun morning outside! I would have it no other way.

Wednesday (Piyo Scuplt)

It was a late workout for me on Wednesday. Late meaning, aroun 7:30am.  I have no idea when this became my late, but it has happened.  After a night spent sleeping outside in the tent, it took me a little bit to push play.  The trips back and forth from the tent to the house carrying blankets and sleeping bags should count toward some sort of workout.  Don’t you think?

Anyway, I got Piyo Sculpt done while the boys played upstairs in the toy room.  It was quite pleasant and enjoyable.

Somehow, my pony tail ended up on the side of my head by the time I completed my rep work.  It may have been those darn burpees.  A side pony tail is proof of a good workout. Right?

Wednesday’s Workout:

  • Piyo Sculpt
  • 60 leg raises
  • 50: reverse crunches, jack hammer crunches, and bicycle crunches
  • 40: tricep dips, push ups, squats, donkey kicks, bridges, fire hydrants, clam shells, dead bugs, Russian twists, ankle taps, and scissor kicks
  • 20: leg and hip extensions, single leg deadlifts, supermans, and burpees
  • 3:00 planks
  • arm weights, 10 reps, three rounds

THURSDAY (Run)

HOT…one word to describe tonight’s run!!!

I asked N if he wanted to go for a bike ride this morning in hopes of getting a run in early.  He was not feeling it this morning though. Which meant I either had the treadmill or a very late, hot run in my future.  Outside is better than inside, in my opinion.  As soon as I got back from Darke County, I changed my clothes and headed out!

I let my husband know that I was going to run 2-4 miles depending on the heat and how I was feeling.  I did not really know what to expect since I am not normally running in the evening or in these temperatures.

I took off up the neighborhood hill and was already panting.  I was panting, but pleased with my pace.  Therefore, I tried my best to keep it up.  I heard it loud and clear as I went out without any music.  I am trying to get used to no headphones more often.

At a half mile, the sweat was already dripping down my face.  Anytime I hit a shade tree, it felt 10 degrees cooler.  I was envious of all the guys out there who get to run with no shirts!

Once I saw that negative split for mile two, I was determined to have negative splits through three miles.  It is easier to run that final mile fast, because it is more downhill than up.  I kept thinking, “No matter how hot you are, finish this off strong”.

I want to be real here.  This would be my “I am a wet dog” picture.  Keeping it real with a day of eating, no flexing, and a sweaty sports bra.

Super proud of tonight’s run!  Although it was only three miles, I kept a great pace for me at that temperature.

Thursday’s Workout (morning rep work, evening run):

  • 3 mile run
  • 62 leg raises
  • 50: reverse crunches, bicycle crunches, and jack hammer crunches
  • 40: tricep dips, push ups, squats, lunges, donkey kicks, bridges, clam shells, fire hydrants, Russian twists, ankle taps, dead bugs, and scissor kicks
  • 20: leg and hip extensions, single leg deadlifts, supermans, and burpees
  • 2:30 planks
  • arm weights, 10 reps, three rounds

365 Days… When the pandemic hit, I found myself a bit out-of-control. Like many of you, routines were flipped upside down in an instant. Suddenly, I was a 24/7 parent, teacher, coach, and actual physical presence for two growing boys. The gym closed down; my job went with it. I am thankful that I did…

Disney Dopey Challenge 2020 One year ago today, I completed my third marathon, which happened to also be my first Disney Dopey Challenge! (Little did I know that my 2020 racing days were numbered). I am very thankful to be able to say that I “raced” each of my distances last year. Those four distances…
