Weekend Workout Recap

I am going to try something new.  Instead of getting out blog posts every single day with my workout information, I am going to write up a weekly post.  Honestly, it is really hard to find the time to sit down and get it posted to you all during the hectic day.  With summer adventures and no preschool in the afternoons coming at the end of next week, I have no idea how it would happen daily.  I do not like falling behind or letting you guys down.  Therefore, I am going to give this a try.  We will see.  I am open for adjusting if need be.

Friday

It was an early alarm for my husband on Friday.  I was awake, too, so I decided to get out of bed and get my rep work done before the boys came downstairs. I turned on the DVR’d Scandal from the night before and got going.

Friday’s Piyo workout was provided by…

this empty box.  Yes, the boys were playing around with this half of a box we had been saving for a project.  Both boys were under there hiding when I snapped this photo.  Between the empty box and the paw patroller, I was able to complete my 22 minute Piyo Strength Interval workout in the living room!

When it came time for my hand weights, Mr. C decided to join me.  Rep work mixed in with tickles and giggles puts a smile on my face.  In between sets of the weights, I chased this big guy around the house a couple laps.

Friday’s Workout:

  • Piyo stength intervals
  • 40: tricep dips, push ups, squats, lunges, donkey kicks, bridges, clam shells, Russian twists, ankle taps, dead bugs, scisor kicks, and dead bugs
  • 20: leg and hip extensions, single leg deadlifts, supermans, and burpees
  • 2:30 plank
  • arm weights, 10 reps, three rounds
  • foot races around the house

After my workout was completed, the boys kept me going by building a race track all throughout the house.  (Please ignore the mess.  I started prepping for a big garage sale next week).  We had several races.  N won every single time.  I was super slow with those tight turns.  Those two had no fear!  Luckily, no one ran into anything and all of us raced without injuries.

High fives for getting part of the workout done right after rolling out of bed.  Rep work done before 7:00am!  Boom!

Saturday

Not going to lie.  When I woke up Saturday morning at 5:56am, I tried to convince myself to stay in bed and skip this run!  I felt tired.  I felt wore out.  I did not want to have wet hair at the baseball fields early in the morning.  I wanted to go back to sleep.  I wanted to turn off my alarm and just chill.  I tried really hard to come up with an excuse.

Then, I reminded myself that I would be mad later if I did not do it.  I would not want to put in the miles AFTER an entire morning at the baseball fields.  It was going to get warm and 6:00am was the perfect running weather.

I convinced myself to somehow roll out of bed, get dressed, and commit to running at least two miles.  If I got to 1.5 and still was not feeling it, I would head home.

This is what an early morning run sometimes looks like and often times feels like…

I was pleasantly surprised to notice there was daylight shining through the blinds.  What?  Could this be?  I walked over and lifted the blind to check.  YEP!  It was not pitch black at six in the morning anymore.  LONG summer days are coming!!!  I decided to leave my Higo armbands on the bathroom counter.

When I walked outside, I already felt good about taking that first step out the door.  The air was crisp, but very comfortable for running.  I put on some good music and took off.  My first mile up the hill was not the fastest.  I was not going out for speed.  I was going to enjoy this one.  Before I knew it, my watch was beeping at me for mile one.

By the time I hit mile two I was starting to feel really good.  I knew then, that I was going to get in a few miles.

Splits: 9:15, 9:13, 8:50, 4:23

Today’s Workout:

  • run 3.5 miles
  • 45 squats
  • 40 bridges and lunges
  • 1:00 plank

Sunday

Happy Mother’s Day!  All I wanted for Mother’s Day this year was to be able to go for a long run and have the toy room picked up.  I did not need gifts (although, those are nice, too).

It was funny.  I was awake in bed and I heard N tell my husband, “You are suppose to make Mommy breakfast”!  (Thank you, Preschool Teacher).  Shawn replied, “But Mommy wants to go for a run”.  It made me smile!  Both boys were being super thoughtful.  Shawn was correct though, I did not want a big breakfast before heading out for a long run.  Instead, I opted for a Smores Pure Protein bar and some water.

I let Shawn go for his run first since he was only running a few miles.  By the time I left around 8:30am, it was already very warm outside.  There was no humidity and there was a slight breeze.  That helped!  Still, while kicking and screaming, I grabbed a water bottle to carry with me for the 10 miles.  I packed my SPIBelt with my license, two chocolate Hammer Gels, an extra hair band, my Apple ipod, and my iphone.  I lathered up in lots of Aveeno sunscreen.  I put my Powerbeat headphones, Nike heaband, and Garmin Forerunner watch on.  Then, the minute Shawn got back from his run, I was out the door for my run!

When I first took off, I knew I wanted to get 10 miles in.  However, I also told myself that if I got too hot or wanted to cut it shorter, that was okay, too.  That is the joys of not being in the middle of training for a race.  You can just go for a run!!!  Many times while I was out there, I found myself smiling and thinking, “I do not HAVE to be putting in these miles. I GET to put in these miles.  I am very lucky”!!!

I took my first water stop around mile 2.5 in front of McDonald’s.  There is a huge shade tree that I took cover under to take a few swigs of H2O.  I made the turn and ran up the road a little bit to be shocked with the line of cars waiting to get into Kings Island.  It was a gorgeous day to spend at the park, but I bet it was PACKED!

I passed a few other runners out enjoying their Sunday morning along the newer bike path in front of Kings Island.  I will say it every single time, I am so thankful for this extra mile of bike path!  My next pit stop came at mile 5 when I reached the Buckeye Running Company store.  Again, I found myself seeking a shade tree to hide under for a couple minutes.  I pulled out my first Hammer Gel to fuel up.  It is amazing the different texture those gels are from the winter runs to the summer runs.  When the gels get warm, they are so much creamier.  I really like the Hammer Gels better in the warmer temps.

A couple miles later, I changed my planned route (which I had told my husband before I left the house so I texted him at the next pit stop letting him know of the change in plans).  I went with the route that was flatter and more shaded.  I ended up cutting through Pine Hill Park.  I love that park!  I hit 7.5 miles right around the section that has the porta potty.  Yep, I took a potty break, because I could!  I drank the rest of my water bottle so I could throw it away in the trash can.  I wanted to be able to run the last few miles without holding anything.

After that, I ran home!  I was back in my normal running stomping grounds.  I was hot.  I considered taking my tank top off and braving the sports bra look, but withheld from blinding the on coming cars from my pale-as-can-be skin.  Not going to say this will not happen at some point this summer if it gets super hot.

My splits, well, I was pleased. I did not go out for a certain pace or time.  I simply went out for an enjoyable run.  Miles five and six were the incline going up Western Row and Tylersville.  I slowed down some there.  I remember thinking, “It’s okay.  You can take it easy today”.  That was such a relief and made me very happy to not have to push up that part of the run!

I returned home to a mostly picked up toy room!  (Legos.  Oh, the Legos).

This long run was the perfect way to start my Mother’s Day!

I grabbed a post run banana to refuel quick.  I finished off my workout on Sunday with a quick plank and the leg challenge rep work.

  • 10 mile run

365 Days… When the pandemic hit, I found myself a bit out-of-control. Like many of you, routines were flipped upside down in an instant. Suddenly, I was a 24/7 parent, teacher, coach, and actual physical presence for two growing boys. The gym closed down; my job went with it. I am thankful that I did…

Disney Dopey Challenge 2020 One year ago today, I completed my third marathon, which happened to also be my first Disney Dopey Challenge! (Little did I know that my 2020 racing days were numbered). I am very thankful to be able to say that I “raced” each of my distances last year. Those four distances…
