Disney 5K

What a perfect morning to run a VERY FLAT 5K! It was perfect for shorts, a tank top, and a few miles.

I had my HiGo light up armbands to help keep me safe on the roads. Also, my Spibelt was carrying my phone and iPod. I was ready to rock ‘n’ roll. 5:42am, go time!

I took off from our ‘home’ this week, the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World. It is our first time staying at this particular resort so I did not have any routes from before.

Plus, I think my three miles is the shortest distance I have ever ran while at Walt Disney World. What?!?!  No running the loop around Magic Kingdom this time. Insert sad face.

I knew I wanted to try to get out to the Magic Kingdom entrance, but I was not 100% sure which road to take at the start. As soon as I took off, I quickly realized where I was and that it was probably going to be just the right amount of miles.

I cut through the massive parking lot almost every run I do on property here.  Not many people see the parking lot like this. Here is the Magic Kingdom parking lot before 6:00am.  Where is everyone?!?!?

Okay, so there are a few cars at the very front (not in this picture).  All of the cast members are making their way to work.

Sleepy trams had not woke up for the day yet.

I reached my goal location right around 1.55. Perfect!  Welcome to Magic Kingdom!  No lines to pay to get in to park!!!  While there were sporadic cars and buses coming through, it was still pretty quiet. I could not believe I caught a moment with NO vehicles!

It was time to turn around and head back home.

Back at the Polynesian, the bus stop was quiet and still. Soon, the benches would be filled and the space would be crowded. Ah, enjoy the calmness before the crazy.

Another empty spot was the lobby.

Three quick miles had me sweating and feeling good. Sorry, no splits tonight. My watch is in the bathroom and this body is not getting out of bed to get it right now.

I got back to our building and had a few minutes before everyone else needed to wake up. Therefore, I got some rep work done in the hallway!  Yeah, I was the person holding a plank in a hotel hallway this morning.

Today’s Workout:

  • 3.1 mile run
  • 40: tricep dips, push ups, dead bugs, scissor kicks, bicycle crunches, leg raises, reverse crunches, supermans, and knee to elbow planks
  • 5:00 planks
  • Oh, and many miles walking and pushing around 100 pounds (my phone says approximately 5-6 more miles after my run)

Breakfast plates made for the boys, a quick shower and breakfast for me, and we were out the door on our way to a morning of fun at Hollywood Studios.

Followed by an afternoon and evening at Disney’s Wide World of Sports to cheer on the Detroit Tigers in their Spring training game. Well, I may have cheer for Brandon Phillips (sadly, now a Brave) more!

Now, it is past 11:00pm. My eyes are trying to shut on me as I type. Another day awaits me in a few short hours. As of now, no workout is planned for tomorrow other than walking a handful of miles. We shall see what the day brings.

For now, signing out from the happiest place on Earth! Sweet dreams, folks! See ya real soon!

365 Days… When the pandemic hit, I found myself a bit out-of-control. Like many of you, routines were flipped upside down in an instant. Suddenly, I was a 24/7 parent, teacher, coach, and actual physical presence for two growing boys. The gym closed down; my job went with it. I am thankful that I did…

Disney Dopey Challenge 2020 One year ago today, I completed my third marathon, which happened to also be my first Disney Dopey Challenge! (Little did I know that my 2020 racing days were numbered). I am very thankful to be able to say that I “raced” each of my distances last year. Those four distances…
