Disney Trip Meals

Traveling and eating right is hard.  Possible, but hard.  You have to cut yourself some slack when you are on a trip.  Do the best you can and except it for what it is.  Remember, it is important to treat yourself every once in awhile.

Sunday morning, we started our day with breakfast at IHOP.  We knew we would not be eating a real meal until later in the afternoon when we arrived at our resort.  Therefore, we filled up with a larger breakfast.  I enjoyed an egg white veggie omelette (spinach, tomatoes, green peppers, broccoli, Swiss cheese, avocado, and salsa) and a side of fruit.

Sunday’s lunch was snacking on the airplane as we flew South.  I had packed a banana, some cashews, and these VERY YUMMY dried manoges.  I found these at Target last week and may be addicted now.  These were perfect for take off and landing as they are pretty chewy.  (No extra sugar added)!

Sunday’s dinner was at Captain Cooks in the Polynesian resort.  I ordered the Polynesian salad: lettuce, grilled chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, and pineapple.  I had a side of ranch dressing, too.

Monday morning my breakfast was my normal Fiber One chocolate oats bar and a banana after my early run.  I packed my Fiber One bars in the suitcase (along with all kinds of other snacks).  I ordered the bananas from Garden Grocer.  They deliver our bananas right to our hotel room.  Best thing ever!  We usually order milk, bananas, yogurt, apple slices, sodas, and waters.

When the boys both wanted to ride Star Tours, I ate up my morning snack in the shade (I am a pale redhead after all).  Mmmmm, apple!  I packed some apples in the suitcase and so glad I did.  Very refreshing.  (Mommy does not do big motion rides like that.  My apple would come right back up and no one wants that).

We had our first experience at the T-Rex restaurant for lunch on Monday.  It was neat to see all of the dinosaurs around us, but it is very loud.  I ordered the herbivore salad.  However, I had to add chicken! I guess I would make a horrible herbivore dinosaur.  It came with lettuce, candied pecans, goat cheese, strawberries, grilled chicken, and I forget what dressing. I messed up and forgot to ask for my dressing on the side so I had a lot of dressing.  It was a very good salad!

Monday night we went to the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves spring training game at Disney’s Wide World of Sports field.  I had a few french fries from the boys’ plates, some cashews, two of my cookies, and more dried mangoes.  I was really full from our late lunch.

The next morning, I had my typical breakfast again…Fiber One chocolate oats bar and a banana.

Tuesday’s lunch was more snack foods.  When we got back to the hotel for the afternoon naps I chowed down on an apple, pecan nuts, and these Bare Cocoa banana chips.  I had a couple of my cookies from home for dessert.  My cookies never travel well. Smashed and crumbly cookies are better than no cookies though!

One of our favorite restaurants at Disney World is Liberty Tree Tavern.  They serve a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal family style.  The food is absolutely delicious.  They keep making small changes to the menu on us though.  We started off with our salad.  Again, I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side.  Bummer.  It was a yummy raspberry or something vinaigrette.  I loaded up on the salad: lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and onions which I tried my best to avoid grabbing.

After our salads, we were served our main course.  Turkey, pork, roast, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, mac n cheese, dinner rolls, gravy, and cranberry sauce.  Hmmm.  I looked around the table waiting for our server to place the green beans in front of me.  Nothing.  My eyes may have bugged out of my face at this point.  Where are the green beans?!?!?  I kindly asked the server if they changed the menu and took away the green beans.  Sadly, they had.  OH MY!  There was not a green vegetable on the table.  I may have panicked a little.  Our server was the best and had some green beans cooked up for us anyway!!!!  I guess they still serve green beans at breakfast time so as long as they keep those on the menu at any point in the day, we can ask for the substitution.  Phew!

I had my slice of turkey, a little dressing, cranberry sauce, and GREEN BEANS!!!

This does not even show all of the green beans.  My dad gave me a hard time, so I ended up eating every last green bean they brought us.  Which was double what is in this picture.  I definitely met my vegetable quota in that meal.

Dessert was delicious.  It was a cinnamon coffee cake with vanilla ice cream topped in little chunks of heath bar.  SCRUMPTIOUS!

Another Disney favorite of ours is Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary.  While many people rave about the Mickey Mouse waffles, I am more of a chocolate chip pancake kind of girl.  I mean, CHOCOALTE, come on!!!  Breakfast buffet plate #1 for me was scrambled eggs and salsa, hash browns, two chocolate chip pancakes, Greek yogurt, grapes, and strawberries.

Plate #2 was another chocolate chip pancake and more fruit.  Bring on the fruit!

After our larger breakfast, we just snacked through lunch.  Honestly, I do not remember exactly what I snacked on.  Probably a banana, a couple of my cookies, and nuts of some sort.

For dinner, we went out to Saratoga Springs to a DVC special event.  BRUSSEL SPROUTS and RED PEPPERS!!!!  I threw in some chicken and cheese cubes, too, but was most excited about the vegetables.  At the end of the event, we made smores by the fire pit.  Yes, I treated myself to one. It seems that Disney brings out a dessert a day in me.

Our final morning, we went to The Crystal Palace for breakfast.  We were able to get into Magic Kingdom early which was pretty neat.  Our breakfast was finished as the park was opening.  The best part about breakfast at this restaurant is the egg omelette bar!!!  In my omelette I had, broccoli, green peppers, Swiss cheese, sausage, and tomatoes.

It is another buffet.  Plate #2 was honey yogurt (not sure exactly what that is, but it was tasty), strawberries, and pineapple!

My parents were raving about this breakfast lasagna dessert.  Of course, I then had to try a little bit of it.  I could have easily ate an entire bowl of this stuff.  I would add in more bananas and strawberries to make it just perfect.

And I am a person who loves traditions.  Breakfasts at The Crystal Palace are always finished off with a bowl of ice cream topped with sprinkles.

After our large buffet breakfast, no one was really hungry come lunch time.  I could not leave Disney World without having a Mickey Mouse ice cream sandwich, though.  Ice cream for lunch, it had to be!

Thursday’s dinner was on the airplane.  I had an apple, a banana, a few of my cookies, and some cashews.

OH, and I ate an entire bag of trail mix during those first two days.  Wowzers!

Perfect?  Nope!  Not even close!

Could it be worse? Yep!  Absolutely!

I enjoyed myself on our family trip!!!  I did not worry about the calories or if I was doing enough to burn it all off.  Food is not meant to stress us out.  It is meant to be viewed as fuel for our bodies.  Our bodies need certain foods to give us energy.  We needed energy to walk all over Walt Disney World for four days of fun!  I had an absolute blast!  Now, it is back to an occasional treat and some normal meals for me.

What is your favorite Disney food or restaurant?!?!?

365 Days… When the pandemic hit, I found myself a bit out-of-control. Like many of you, routines were flipped upside down in an instant. Suddenly, I was a 24/7 parent, teacher, coach, and actual physical presence for two growing boys. The gym closed down; my job went with it. I am thankful that I did…

Disney Dopey Challenge 2020 One year ago today, I completed my third marathon, which happened to also be my first Disney Dopey Challenge! (Little did I know that my 2020 racing days were numbered). I am very thankful to be able to say that I “raced” each of my distances last year. Those four distances…
